In keeping with the spirit of a liberal arts education, Sanford School requires participation in an afternoon sports program. The following sports are currently offered as part of that program.
Fall: soccer (boys), cross country, volleyball, field hockey (girls), golf, fitness and conditioning
Winter: basketball, wrestling, swimming, fitness and conditioning
Spring: lacrosse, soccer (girls), tennis, golf, baseball, fitness and conditioning
Fitness and conditioning is an athletic offering that gives students a non-competitive opportunity to improve their level of physical fitness throughout the trimester. Strength training will be facilitated by use of the equipment in the weight room, and cardio-vascular fitness will be addressed through various outdoor/indoor activities. The class will meet every day from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m. Those students who successfully complete the trimester will earn one athletic/activity credit.
The following participation is required by grade level:
• Grade nine: Minimum of two credits as a member of a Sanford team
• Grades ten, eleven and twelve: Minimum of one credit as a member of a Sanford team
All students are required to complete a total of 8 athletic/activity credits during four years. Students who end an athletic season in good standing will earn credits in the following categories:
• As a team athlete 1 credit
• Approved performing arts credit 1 credit
• Fitness and conditioning elective 1 credit
• Manager or other support personnel:
Game day manager 1⁄2 credit
Full-time manager 1 credit
