Upper School Graduation Requirements
Graduation from Sanford requires the successful completion of a minimum of twenty-one academic credits. A credit is the equivalent of a full year of study in a course. Trimester courses are worth 1/3 of a credit. Students must be enrolled in at least 5 classes each trimester.
English 4 Credits World Languages 3 credits of the same language Mathematics 3 credits Social Studies 3 credits (one must be American history) Labratory Sciences 3 credits (biology, chemistry, physics)
Studio Arts 1/3 credit Performing Arts 1/3 credit Computer Science 1/3 credit Health 1/3 credit Research paper 1/3 credit Others 3 1/3 credits TOTAL 21 credits An additional requirement is the successful completion of a senior project, as outlined by the Senior Project Coordinator.
We encourage each student to take the maximum number of credits within each academic discipline that they can. Preparing our students to accept academic challenges and rigor is frequently an asset in their future academic studies.
