Extended Day and Summer Programs
Sanford cares for your child before school, after school, during holidays & during vacations
Early morning drop off - Lower School students report to the Lower School Library after 7:15 a.m.for coloring, reading, and quiet play activities before morning recess. Middle School students report to the Middle School Library after 7:00 a.m. There is no extra charge for early morning drop-offs.
After school care begins at 2:45 p.m., when members of the Extended Day staff escort children in JK through 4th grade to their grade level extended day classrooms.
- Healthy snacks fuel growing bodies after a busy day at school.
- Following snack time, our experienced extended day teachers provide structured study halls for homework time.
- Fresh air and outdoor play are part of every child's day, weather permitting.
In addition to air-conditioned classrooms, there is a full-sized gymnasium, computer lab, kitchen, and indoor play castle. The extended day facility is located in the lower level of Geipel gymnasium, next to the Lower School playground and athletic field. Please note that Sanford's Extended Day area has a peanut free policy.
After school activities may be coordinated with an extended day schedule:
- Private music lessons (grades 1–12): $25 for 30 minutes and $37 for 45 minutes) Music teachers walk Lower School students back to the Extended Day facility. Middle School students are permitted to walk back to Middle School after their lesson.
- 4th grade Chorus
- 4th grade Boys and Girls Book parties
- Home games for the Sanford Warriors, with parental permission(grades 7–8)
5th–8th Grade
Students in grades 5–8 meet in the spacious Middle School Library, an ideal setting for engaging in supervised homework sessions, reading, using the computers, playing games and socializing with peers. The library is in close proximity to athletic fields and the Sanford Sports Center.
HOLIDAYS & VACATION DAYS AT SANFORD:
Swimming in the Sanford pool during those last few days of summer, painting posters for homecoming, making birdhouses in September, carving pumpkins for a special Halloween display, making holiday ornaments, cooking alphabet soup, ping-pong, basketball, wii, ring toss, and outside play are just some of the activities students do during holidays and vacations — for no extra charge. Our Extended Day staff is committed to making those school holidays extra special days for your child.
Every member of the staff brings special talents and interests to the program. They know the children well and enjoy interacting with them.

Open Monday – Friday until 6:00 p.m.
The School reserves the right to close Extended Day due to extreme weather conditions. School closing information will be provided through Sanford’s ParentAlert notification system.

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS:
- Art Club*: (grades K–4) This program is brought to us by the Center for the Creative Arts and is taught by certified art educators. The Club offers students the opportunity to explore their creative side while they make art together, discovering famous artists and fascinating cultures. All materials are included.
- Brownies and Cub Scouts*: Space is provided at Sanford for scouting programs. Nominal dues are required by the national organizations. Enrollment is dependent on the interest of trained parent leaders.
- Dance Club*: (grades 3–4) one afternoon a week, run by Lower School teacher and dancer
- Financial Literacy Club: (grade 5) Does your fifth grader know the difference between needs and wants? Sign your child up for this free after school activity that combines fun with finances! Sanford's Middle School Technology Instructor will lead the group to discuss responsible financial decision making and reinforce important math skills with real-life application.
- Girls on the Run*: (grades 3–6) grade girls meet two afternoons a week during fall and spring seasons, run by Lower School teachers and parents (dues on a sliding scale required by the national organization).
- Homework Buddies*: (grades 2–4) Sanford Lower School instructors provide additional support to students who need extra strategies to complete homework assignments.
- Lego Club*: (grades 2–3) Sanford offers the Junior FIRST LEGO League after school club for students in the 2nd and 3rd grades. This program features a real world challenge that has to be solved by the students using research and critical thinking. The students are guided by an adult coach and work with LEGO elements and moving parts to create a solution. The students will then present their project at an area competition for review by FIRST LEGO League judges.
- Middle School Book Club for Students and their Parents: (grades 5–6 & 7–8) Come see what the buzz is all about! Adults and students read books, and then gather to discuss them. Our promise? Time well spent.
- Science Club: (grade 5) Students will have opportunities to build hands-on projects, design experiments, do research and interact with the different habitats on Sanford’s campus. Small snacks will be provided each week.
- Science Olympiad: (grades 4–6) Eight students from each grade (4th through 6th) compete as a team in multiple events designed to stimulate enthusiasm for science and mathematics. This is a great opportunity to learn and have fun for students interested in science.
- Stage Door Musical Theatre Program*: (grades 2–12) Stage Door at Sanford is an after school drama program offering acting and musical theatre training to young people in grades 2–12. The program is open to all in this age group, including students outside of Sanford School, with Sanford students having first enrollment priority.
- We Do Lego Club*: (grades 1–2) Sanford offers an after school program using the LEGO WeDo Robotics Construction sets. The WeDo Robotics is an easy to use set that introduces the students to robotics using motors and sensors. The students program their models developing their science, technology and math skills.
