General Information

Due to our limited phone lines, please do not call the school for closing updates.

School closings will be announced the following ways: 

  1. Check the Sanford website 
  2. Call the Emergency Closing Hotline 1-888-239-6785. 
  3. Register your email address with the State of Delaware site for automatic email notification.
  4. Tune into your local radio and TV stations.

How to Register for the State of Delaware School Closing Notification System

We at Sanford School have the opportunity to take advantage of the State of Delaware's official school closing notification system that provides the opportunity to receive messages about Sanford School closings directly to your cell phone and/or email. By registering your cellular phone numbers and/or email addresses, you will be alerted quickly and directly if Sanford decides to close due to a weather-related or other emergency. This system precludes the need for making phone calls to the school or relying on phone chains; in fact, it operates even when phone lines are out of service. With this system, a message about a school closing can reach you quickly and directly wherever you are--at home, at work or on the road.

Even if you don't normally use text messaging on your cell phone, most carriers and cell phones have text messaging capability. For example, with Verizon your text message address is your phone number with no punctuation@vtext.com. You can contact your wireless carrier to learn more about how to access your own text messaging system. You can also choose to register your email addresses and receive messages to your computer and/or Palm/Blackberry.

How do I create an account?

  1. Enter http://diss.state.de.us into the address bar of your browser.
  2. Select the Create Account link in the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. Enter the appropriate information in the spaces provided and select the Submit button.
  4. Open your email program, which is associated with the email address that you just entered.
  5. Read the email(s) from diss@state.de.us with .DE Subscription Service Account Validation subject line.
  6. Select the link located inside your email from diss@state.de.us to create your personal account preferences.
  7. Enter your password in the space provided. Select the Activate button. This step validates your email address and activates your account.
  8. Go to maintain account to enter additional email addresses for your account.
How do I add a school to my school action subscription?
  1. Enter http://diss.state.de.us into the address bar of your browser.
  2. Enter your User Name and Password into the spaces on the left-hand side of the screen under Account Services. and select the Login button.
  3. Select the Subscribe/Unsubscribe link located beneath the Subscription Services header on the left.
  4. Select a school from the drop down list to add a school(s) to your account.
  5. Select the Create/Submit button to update your account; repeat steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary to add multiple schools to your subscription.
