CulinArt, Inc. has been providing our students and staff with delicious, nutritious meals since 2010 — the result of a student initiative to have higher quality, healthier, sustainably produced lunch options in Sanford’s Café, located in Quigley Hall.
Chef Budd Cohen plans original menus that feature local, sustainable ingredients. The dining staff makes many items from scratch so that menu choices are healthier, fresher, better-tasting and may accommodate students with food allergies and sensitivities. The dining hall offers both gluten-free dining options and a nut-free table.
As Chef Budd plans meals, works with classes that visit the Café, and visits the local farms that source our produce, he seeks to educate students about nutrition, ensure sustainability and fair labor practices, and reduce waste. Students enjoy comingled recycling and compostable containers and paper products, and Friendship House homeless shelter welcomes our leftovers each Friday.
Menus
Chef Budd knows that food has to be appealing! Daily lunch options always include a homemade soup of the day, fresh salad bar, chef’s specials and accompaniments, tasty grill and deli choices, and original twists on pizza and pasta. A vegetarian offering is always available, and whole grain flour enhances the taste and texture of the Café’s popular muffins, scones and other baked goods. Students arriving on campus early can stop by for breakfast, as well.
Dining Options
All Sanford students have the option to bring their lunches from home or to enjoy CulinArt’s freshly prepared meals. (Lower School students are reminded that their building is Peanut and Tree Nut-Free.) Students in grades 3–12 go to the dining hall for lunch at staggered times, where they can purchase meals with cash or via a monitorable, cashless dining account.
JK–2nd Grade Dining Options:
Milk Program: Provides fresh, cold milk to supplement students’ packed lunches every day of the week.
Pizza Fridays: Friday is pizza lunch day! Kids ordering pizza bring their favorite accompaniments and a beverage from home (unless signed up for the milk program, which will provide the beverage).
Dining Program: Order from a selection of hot, kid-friendly lunches, delivered to your JK–2nd grade child’s classroom Monday–Thursday. Each meal includes a fresh fruit or vegetable side dish, milk and a dessert. Menus are on a two-week rotation and student choices can be changed at any time throughout the year. |
