Sanford Wins DIAA Sportsmanship Award for Third Year Running
The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) has named Sanford a winner of the DIAA Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row.
The Sportsmanship Award is an annual, non-competitive honor for which any DIAA member high school or middle school may qualify. Schools must submit an application and satisfy ten performance criteria that demonstrate a culture of good sportsmanship at the school. This year, Sanford was one of 18 other Delaware-area schools to earn the recognition. Each winning school receives a banner in their school colors, five state tournament passes, a $500 grant for athletic programs, and spots for one adult and two student delegates to attend the DIAA Student Leadership Conference, held this year from August 8-10 in Lewes.
Athletic Director Joan Samonisky praised the school community for this achievement. “This is a result of the great work and efforts of the Sportsmanship Committee, our players, coaches, and fans,” she said. “It is a positive reflection of our entire school community and the values of honor and respect that we teach each day at Sanford.”
