Stan Waterman Appointed to DIAA Board

Dean of Students and Assistant Director of Athletics Stan Waterman has been appointed to serve on the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) board, in the role of a private school administrator.
Stan will serve with school administrators, athletic directors, coaches from public and private schools, and members of the public for a three-year term, with the option for a second term if invited to remain.

Appointed by the Governor’s office, Board members oversee interscholastic athletics programs in the state of Delaware. They work in accordance with the DIAA’s mission to “preserve and promote the educational significance of interscholastic athletics; ensure that interscholastic sports remain compatible with the educational mission of the member schools; provide for fair competition between member schools; promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior; establish and enforce standards of conduct for athletes, coaches, administrators, officials and spectators; protect the physical well-being of athletes; and promote healthy adolescent lifestyles.”

Sanford is the only DISC school ever to have two faculty members serve on the DIAA Board: Stan and Athletic Director Joan Samonisky, who served two terms in the early 2000s as a private school athletic director.

“I am thrilled that Stan has the opportunity to serve on the DIAA Board as a private school administrator,” Joan said. “He is so highly respected across the state of Delaware. I know he will represent the private school sector well in DIAA Board discussions and decisions. This is a wonderful professional development opportunity for Stan!”
