Zoe LaMonte Qualifies for 2017 World Cup of Modern Pentathlon

Junior Zoe LaMonte has qualified to represent the United States in the first competition of the 2017 World Cup of Modern Pentathlon, which will be held in Los Angeles from February 20–27.
The Olympic event modern pentathlon includes five different events: fencing, freestyle swimming, show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross-country running. Despite some early struggles in the fencing competition, Zoe put in excellent times in the run/shoot, swimming, and riding events to finish 9th in the recent qualifying tournament. She also finished fourth among Youth competitors and 6th among Juniors. After all these events, Zoe’s final ranking qualifies her to compete in the World Cup--after only six months of formal training in Modern Pentathlon.

“I cannot thank the Sanford community enough for the support, coaching and encouragement that everyone has given Zo,” said Zoe’s mother Bonnie. “I have to believe that Sanford's wonderful environment of encouragement, challenge, intensity, goofiness, confidence, and energy has a lot to do with her success.”

Congratulations and good luck to Zoe!
