From our Counselors & school Nurse

Remote learning. Social distancing. Asynchronous classes. Some children and adults heard and used these terms for the first time in their lives when the pandemic broke out. To help families adjust to changes during this challenging time, our school counselors and school nurse compiled resources (below) and offered the following advice for parents:
  • Help your child establish routines and consistency. Doing so helps manage expectations (for parents and kids), helps to create a sense of normalcy and purpose within the day, and provides structure/framework around long days at home that can feel overwhelming.
  • Remember that breaks are important. Built-in breaks for connection, relaxation, fun, and exercise are a great way for your child to recharge and refuel for distance learning tasks.
  • Move your body and encourage your children to do the same. Movement is good for emotional and physical health. Online exercise programs are available and people of all ages. Consider using services such as Zoom to create group workouts with friends and family members.
  • Partner with your children's school counselors. While campus is closed, our counselors are available for online meetings and calls with parents and students.
