What happens if someone tests positive for COVID-19?

Sanford is committed to providing families with the best experience possible while also implementing precautions to keep our community safe. Delaware’s Division of Public Health has released instructions for Responding to COVID in Schools. Sanford leadership will partner with our assigned contact at DPH if and when cases of COVID-19 are reported. We ask that families self-report any positive cases of COVID-19 or potential cases that involve their household members to Jennifer Conway, Sanford’s School Nurse. The student’s name will be kept confidential and shared only with the student’s homeroom teacher or advisor, division head, counselor, and Sanford leadership team.

Students who test positive for COVID-19 will not be able to return to school until instructed to do so by the Division of Public Health. DPH will notify the student’s family by email when it is safe for the student to return to school. A copy of this email must be shared with Sanford before the student may return to in-person classes.

This information is intended to clarify how Sanford will comply with DPH’s instructions if and when a community member tests positive for COVID-19.
