Stan Waterman receives Sanford Founder’s Day Award

On September 26, we came together to celebrate Founder's Day, commemorating an impressive 93 years of Sanford School and paying homage to the enduring legacy of Mother Sawin.
During our celebration, we recognize a community member that has made outstanding contributions; this year, we announced Stan Waterman as the recipient of the 2023 Founder's Day award.

Stan's dedication and contributions to our school community have been remarkable, and he is a shining example of what makes Sanford exceptional.

Stan's journey with Sanford began in June 1990 when he joined as an assistant coach. By April 1991, he had assumed the role of head coach, and in 1993, he was named dean of students. Under Stan's guidance, the Warriors achieved an impressive eight state championships!

Our current head boys' basketball coach, Khallid Hart '12, spoke warmly about Coach Stan, describing him as a genuine, respectful family man and someone who embodies honesty and dependability - qualities he described as quintessentially "Sanford."

Coach Hart expressed that he was honored to head the program and hopes to continue to add to Stan's legacy and make him proud.

Stan Waterman has left an indelible mark on our school, and it is with great pride that we present him with the Founder's Day award.
