Harris Lives the Sanford Motto

On April 21, 2018, rising fifth grader Charli Harris earned first-place honors in the Floor Competition, Level 4, at the Pennsylvania Gymnastic Championship Meet, which was held in Bellefonte, PA.
A gymnast since she was 18 months old and a competitor since age 5, Charli is also proficient on the vault, balance beam, and the uneven bars, but it is the floor exercise that is her personal favorite. Charli’s excellent scores in such events as the Tim Weaver Battlefield Invitational and the Greater New York Invitational in late 2017 and early 2018 gave her more than the necessary points required to compete at the state level. Charli’s weekly training at Roth’s CrossPoint Gymnastics in Boothwyn, PA also led to her successes.

Charli’s favorite quote, which was chosen for Sanford City this year, is “When it rains, look for rainbows, and when it is dark, look for the stars.” Her optimistic personality and willingness to accept challenges go beyond the world of gymnastics. After two tryouts, Charli became the youngest member of the SRTC “The Sound of Music” cast, playing the role of the youngest child, Gretl. Her mother, Shai Harris, shared, “This is where her vocal talents were ignited. Charli never missed a rehearsal, and she never uttered one complaint about the time required to participate in the play. This led to an easy transition when her gymnastics training schedule was increased from nine hours a week to the more than 16 she now puts into her preparation.”

Charli is known for her kindness, empathy, and patience—all good qualities for dealing with her classmates, teammates, and puppy Langston! We congratulate Charli for her outstanding accomplishments and for living the Sanford motto, No Talent Lies Latent.
