Kung to Take Lacrosse Skills to Albright College

Brianna Kung ’20 first started playing lacrosse as a middle school student because she wanted to try a new sport and many of her friends were joining the lacrosse team. It turned out to be an excellent decision, from both a social and an athletic standpoint.
She explained: “Being on a team has helped me to be more social, which has led me to make friends who I know I will keep for a lifetime. As a teammate, I grew as a person, recognizing the importance of cheering someone on if they are having a hard time.” And, as it turned out, Kung is a talented lacrosse player.

As Kung continued with the sport in the Upper School, coaches Anne Brooking and Laurie DeLuca pushed her to become the best athlete that she could be. “I appreciate that both coaches saw potential in me, and they worked hard to help me develop my skills,” said Kung. She also worked hard during the past three summers by playing for the Green Turtle Lacrosse Club.

Now a senior, Kung has verbally committed to Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she will continue her athletic career as a Division III collegiate lacrosse player. Next fall, Sanford’s blue and gold will be replaced as Kung will wear the Lions’ red and white. But for now, she will continue to swim for Sanford during the winter and enjoy time with family and friends. Additionally, Kung likes art, music, and traveling.

Kung shared: “This was not an easy process or a decision that I made quickly. After much thought and consideration, I realized that Albright has everything I hoped for in a college. I love the size, the location, its proximity to my family, and that I can study either early childhood education or special education. With an elementary school close to campus, I could even try to get an internship in the future. The extra bonus is that I will have the opportunity to play a sport that I truly enjoy and have the wonderful experience of being on a college team. I am really thrilled!”
