Local Professional Discusses Student Athletic Performance

On March 10th, Matthew Harris, PT, DPT, CSCSO, a physical therapist and supervisor at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, spoke to a small group of interested parents on the topic of "Maximizing Sports Performance for Young Athletes." The evening meeting, held in the Geipel Center's Rubin Family Auditorium, provided the audience with a brief presentation and the opportunity to ask questions.

Sanford Athletic Director Joan Samonisky elaborated: “The Delaware Association of Athletic Directors (DAAD) had an opportunity earlier this year to hear a colleague of Matt’s deliver a similar program. Quite frankly, it was one of the best presentations I have ever attended. Every member of the audience was engrossed and engaged. That talk generated many excellent questions that led to a great discussion. I am excited that our partnership with DAAD enabled me to schedule Matt’s talk at Sanford.”

While the turnout was not large, those in attendance responded similarly to Samonisky’s earlier reaction. "Those who came to this talk all commented on how much they enjoyed it. I believe that furthering the education of students, parents, and coaches in all aspects of a student’s life, including athletics, is very important," commented Samonisky. "We will continue to seek meaningful opportunities to do so. In the meantime, we are grateful to Matt for sharing his time and expertise with us."
