Student Artists Selected to Display Their Work

A number of Sanford students were selected to have their artwork on display at a variety of prestigious locations. While the events had to be canceled and the venues shuttered, the undeniable talent of the students remains newsworthy.
At the annual National Art Education Association conference, which was to have been held in late March in Minneapolis, Minnesota, four students were slated to have their work showcased for the anticipated 5,000 art educators who had planned to attend. Congratulations to these amazing young artists:

Andrew Kaser '25 Photography "Spinning & Spinning"
Benjamin Cooney '31 Painting "Lines & Shapes"
Victoria Lewycky '31 Printmaking "Butterflies"

David Goodall '24 was to have had his photograph "Eye of Ruby" on display at the Townsend Building and the Biggs Museum of Art in Dover from March 14–April 13, 2020. Unfortunately, that display and the special artist reception on March 19th was not able to take place as planned.

Kennett Square, Pennsylvania hosts an annual Art on the Square event during the last weekend of March. Many of Sanford’s artists in grades K–12 were looking forward to displaying their work and participating in a lively and entertaining way to celebrate artistic expression. While this year’s event was not able to be held, it is hoped that March 2021 will once again see Kennett Square filled with student artwork.

When asked about the success of these students, Art Instructor Nina Silverman-Weeks shared: "Pushing one's creative mind can often be hard work. Hard work is what makes us learn and grow. Easy does not necessarily mean one is progressing. I join the members of the Art Department in being so proud to celebrate the progress made by our young artists."

Not having these opportunities to showcase their talents was undoubtedly disappointing to the students, families, teachers, and school communities. However, the fact remains that artistic expression is a unique and special form of creativity that knows no boundaries. These young artists tapped into their talents and found a positive form of self-expression. As an added and unexpected bonus, they were recognized by others for their creations, and we congratulate them for their successes.
