Sanford Students Honored for Outstanding Writing

The award recipients are:

• Joseph McMillan, who won a Silver Key in the Personal Essay & Memoir category for "A Specter Out of Place."
• Zehua You, who received an Honorable Mention award in the  Poetry category for "You Must Wake Up With Sorrow."
• Clay Cauley, a Silver Key honoree for his poem "Questions"
• Melissa Daniels, who earned an Honorable Mention award in the Personal Essay & Memoir category for "I Couldn’t Find Flowers at theSupermarket"
• Lia Dougherty, a Gold Key recipient in the Personal Essay & Memoir category, for "Chicken Feet"
• Hailey Nurry, whose short story "Mother and I" received Honorable Mention recognition.
• Wyatt Seder-Burnaford, who won a Gold Key for his short story "Deserters," an Honorable Mention award for his critical essay "The Death Penalty," a Silver Key for his writing portfolio "On Outrage," and a Silver Key  for his short story "Thunder."

Since the program’s founding in 1923, Scholastic Awards have fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students, including renowned alumni who have gone on to become leaders in their fields, including Stephen King and Joyce Carol Oates.
