Junior Scores in Top 1% in Nationwide Math Competition
William Wu '22 finished in the top 1% of students who recently participated in the American Mathematics Competition for tenth- through twelfth-grade students. William's score of 141 out of a possible 150 points qualifies him to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.
Sanford School Math Department Co-chair Heather Taylor shared, "We are proud of William's effort in the two months he spent preparing for the AMC and for earning such a high score. This is the highest AMC score that any Sanford student has ever earned in the years we've participated in the AMC!" Taylor noted that William's accomplishment was particularly impressive considering the level of difficulty built into the test. Examples of the types of questions posed are available on the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) website.
Sponsored by MAA, the American Mathematics Competitions are a series of examinations and curriculum materials that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students. Today, the competition has grown to over 300,000 students worldwide participating annually.
