Tim Lucky Named Lax Player of the Year

By the time Tim Lucky '21 graduated from Sanford in June, he had been chosen 2021 Player of the Year by the Delaware Interscholastic Boys Lacrosse Coaches Association and recognized as a U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American. As a senior, Tim was selected for the 2021 All-State team for mid-field and face-off positions by the Delaware Coaches Association. In 2020, he was named a face-off specialist for the 2020 Under Armour All-America Baltimore Highlight Team.
“A lot of hard work and dedication to the game and the team went into these honors,” observes Sanford Boys’ Lacrosse Head Coach Tim Lucky. “More importantly, we're extremely excited to have Tim recognized as Player of the Year for the program—putting Sanford on the map for lacrosse—it's something we’ve been working towards for the past five years.”

While he began playing lacrosse at age six, what makes Tim so outstanding is that he is a multi-dimensional player. As Coach Lucky explains, “Not only is he successful in facing off, but also he was the team’s best midfielder.” In 2021, he scored 35 goals and had 36 assists; in more than 300 face-offs he had an impressive 79% success rate. In his four-year Sanford career, Tim scored over 100 goals plus more than 100 assists.

At Sanford, Tim was a three-time varsity captain from 2019 through 2021, and he was named First-Team All-Conference in 2017, '18, '19 and '21 for the  Delaware Independent School Conference. Following these honors, he was named to the First-Team All-State in 2019 and 2021 (the 2020 season was cancelled). Tim was also named to the Second Team All-State in 2018.

Coach Lucky is Tim’s father and says, “As a dad, I couldn't be more proud of his accomplishments; they are well-deserved for all the time he puts in for the training & being his best in his position.”

With COVID restrictions, the team was limited to the number of practice squads and mandatory team practices they could hold. To keep up, Coach Lucky notes, “The student captains organized pick-up practices and extra skill work. They got small groups together to practice and spend time together to build the relationships and trust among their teammates.”

Next fall, Tim will be attending Fairfield University and playing Division I Men’s Lacrosse. He's actively training this summer preparing for his freshman year, commuting to Baltimore, Maryland to work with Inner Circle Lacrosse for professional face-off training and two-way midfield play. His lacrosse resume also includes these impressive recognitions: 2019 Under Armour All-American Uncommitted Team, 2020 Baltimore Under Armour Highlight Team, 2019 UNC Elite Men's Lacrosse High School Team Camp & Showdown All-Star,; and 2018 Maverik Lacrosse Classic All-Star.
