Sanford Sophomore Leads Team to Top Spot in Entrepreneurship Competition

Chiron—an education technology platform designed to amplify the health literacy needs of incarcerated people—is a social innovation concept designed by Rai Kahlon and his team of entrepreneurs. This talented group of students competed in and won the regional Diamond Challenge on Sunday, February 27th, at the University of Delaware.
Comprised of students from Sanford School, Charter School of Wilmington (CSW), and Caravel Academy (CA), the team worked together for more than a year to design the platform. Chiron uses interactive medical education to empower and encourage inmates to take control of and manage their medications. The team chose the  name Chiron because, according to Greek mythology, Chiron was the centaur famous for his wisdom and knowledge of medicine.

Rai's team's victory qualified the group to move on to pitch their startup in the Diamond Challenge Summit (international finals) in April. The Diamond Challenge Summit, according to the program's website, "is a unique week-long experience providing semifinalists from around the world the opportunity to develop new skills while energizing their entrepreneurial spirit. High school entrepreneurs learn from world-class speakers, entrepreneurs, and mentors, and forge lifelong connections! Members of the community are invited to attend the culminating awards ceremony."

The Diamond Challenge was created through Horn Entrepreneurship, a cornerstone for entrepreneurial activity based at the University of Delaware. Participants in the program are eligible to win cash prizes and awards. Programs like the Diamond Challenge are based on the emerging science of entrepreneurship – a combination of academic research as well as real-world and industry best practices.
