Cheveé Taylor Announced as Future Head of Lower School

Dear Sanford Community,

I am excited to share the news that Cheveé Taylor will be Sanford School’s next Head of Lower School, beginning on July 1, 2023. A dedicated and experienced educator and administrator, Cheveé currently holds the position of Director of Upper Elementary and Middle School Admission at the Park School of Baltimore, which is also her alma mater. She has been in her current role at Park for five years, and prior to that, she taught 3rd grade for nine years at McDonogh School, another independent school in Baltimore. At both of her schools, Cheveé has earned a reputation as a stellar educator and leader.
Her references spoke of Cheveé's collaboration with all school constituencies. They describe her as a builder of trust and community and a leader who understands the importance of fostering relationships. Those who have worked with Cheveé say she is warm with students, professional with families, and is a lifelong learner. After her candidate visit to Sanford this month, Cheveé was described by one Sanford colleague as “focused on building communities with students, faculty, staff and families to create a sense of belonging for all.” Another Sanford colleague said, “Cheveé came across as a good listener - she was genuinely interested in teachers. Her emphasis on building a community and a shared vision was impressive.”

When asked what drew Cheveé to Sanford, she said, “Sanford's mission and diversity statements initially attracted me to the school. I have been impressed with the deep commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse group of learners and creating an inclusive and nurturing environment. Visiting the campus is when I fell in love with Sanford. The warm embrace from teachers and other community members felt so authentic, and I was enraptured by the students I met. Students instantly greeted me with a smile and enthusiastically shared the incredible teaching and learning happening in the space. In these moments, I instantly felt at home.”

Cheveé earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. Cheveé has two loving and compassionate daughters. Together, they relish moments of laughter and joy—from competitive games of Uno to hiking a new trail.

We look forward to welcoming Cheveé to Sanford in July. Until then, our Lower School will continue to thrive with Libbie Zimmer at the helm. As we communicated last month, Libbie will stay on as Sanford’s Lower School Head through the end of the school year. Libbie is wrapping up her very successful 13-year tenure serving in this role. We continue to be very grateful for everything Libbie has done for the Lower School, our youngest Warriors, and their families.

Sincerely,

Mark J. Anderson
