Swann Finds Spelling and Musical Success

Sanford sixth grader Katarina Swann has proven to be both a wordsmith and a musician in recent months.
First, she triumphed at Sanford’s Middle School round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee for the second year in a row, earning her a spot to compete in the state round on March 4th.

Katarina also earned a spot playing the harp for the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra, a program of the Music School of Delaware, after a rigorous audition process. She performed with the ensemble at their recent free concert in Sanford’s Geipel Center for Performing Arts. The orchestra, open to local students up to age 18, is led by the composer Simeone Tartaglione and offers its members regular sectional rehearsals to hone their skills, interaction with professional guest conductors from renowned institutions, performance opportunities, masterclasses, and ear training.

Congratulations to Katarina on all her recent successes!
