Caroline Cook Named Winner in Southern Teachers Art Contest

Sanford artist Caroline Cook was recently named one of twelve winners of the Southern Teachers Agency's Annual Student Art Contest, now in its 8th year.
Caroline’s winning work was an oil painting, “The Valley,” which depicts Sanford’s Chapel Valley in the autumn. Her work was chosen out of 441 others submitted by independent school students in states across the South and Mid-Atlantic regions. The sponsoring organization, the Southern Teachers Agency, helps to place independent school teachers and employees in schools around the region. The award also honors Caroline’s teacher, Maria Tate.

Caroline’s painting will be reproduced in the agency's art calendar for the upcoming academic year. The Agency will print 17,000 copies of the calendar and distribute it to more than 2,000 independent schools, giving Caroline’s artwork a very wide reach. She and the other twelve winners will also receive a $50 gift certificate to buy art supplies, donated by Blick Art Materials, and five copies of the calendar.

The Southern Teachers Agency said in a statement, “At Southern Teachers, we believe that teaching the fine arts is fundamentally important to the overall education of children. Art teachers develop in their students not only an aesthetic sense and technical abilities, but also creativity and imagination, which are essential talents in our ever-changing world.”

Congratulations to Caroline on this exciting accomplishment!
