Sanford Alumna Finds Her Path to Success

Reshma Moorthy '03, president of Frontier Technologies, Inc. announced that her company was honored by the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council (EMSDC) in December, 2017, as the Class III Supplier of the Year and also Minority Business Advocate of the Year.
Reshma's mother, Jayshree, is the CEO and founder of the nearly 30-year-old Wilmington, Delaware business. Additionally, Jayshree was selected by the non-profit 100 Black Men of Philadelphia as one of the 2017 Women of Color Achievement Awards with the Women’s Presidents’ Organization. Ironically, Reshma earned this same honor in 2013.

The mother-daughter duo are a dynamic team, and they have led their company to explosive growth in the last few years. While the company’s focus is on the building of agile, diverse technology and IT teams, it is their work as community advocates, especially in the areas of diversity and inclusion that makes them especially proud. Reshma, a 2007 graduate of St. Joseph’s University, actively participates as a member in the school’s Initiative for Family Business and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, Reshma was recently elected chair of the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee within the EMSDC. “With this work, I am striving to lead our organization to new heights in the community and foster radically new relationships and synergy with corporate members of the council. I want the voices of other minority business enterprises to be heard more clearly than ever.”

At Frontier, Reshma is described as the company’s innovator. She specializes in driving organizational change, increasing profitability through tech innovation and disruptive partnerships, and leading her teams to achieve results. Reshma has helped her parents at Frontier since the early 2000’s when she was still in high school, but she was not certain at the time that working in a family-owned business was going to be her professional career path. “ As I continued to grow as a person and enjoyed experiencing new and different things, I found I truly did have a passion for both technology and entrepreneurship. I started at the lowest ranks of the company, and I now lead an amazing team to exciting new growth, working hard to empower them with both the resources and autonomy they need to be innovators and thus exceed goals.”

She continued, “In some ways, this is similar to what I experienced at Sanford where I learned to value the relationships that I forged with my classmates and teachers. Also, by learning the Spanish language and culture in high school, and then continuing that study in college, I am at a point where I am thinking seriously about how to take our company into international markets. Having this type of self-confidence is something I can definitely attribute to my time at Sanford. It is important to keep an open mind, even when life throws curveballs your way, because you have to be willing to find the courage to take that leap and find out where it will take you.”

There is no doubt that Reshma will continue to make her mark at Frontier Technologies and in the greater community. We are very proud of Reshma’s accomplishments and her work to educate and showcase the value of diversity in the business world.
