Soccer Standout Signs with St. Joseph’s University

Sanford senior Kendal Trickey recently signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her soccer career at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. Kendal has a strong interest in the sciences and is considering a biology major.
She began playing soccer at the age of four, starting with the Concord Soccer League in Wilmington, where she became a member of the travel team by age eight. At age 13, Kendal joined Penn Fusion Academy in West Chester, where she continues to play, except when she is on the field representing the Lady Warriors Soccer team.

When asked what made her decide to sign with St. Joe’s, Kendal instantly replied that the campus, much like Sanford, felt like home. “I was so welcomed by the coach and current team members,” shared Kendal. “The coach really believes in the school’s freshman program called MAGIS. It is a weekly course that allows us to meet in small groups for community service, social justice education, and reflection. I just love that concept because it is so similar to the values I learned at Sanford. Not many teams take time from practice to devote themselves to community service, and I love that type of school spirit.”

Sanford Head Soccer Coach Heather Taylor said of Kendal, “Two words come to my mind when I think of Kendal: perseverance and commitment. She demonstrates both of these on the field and in the classroom. For our soccer team, she has been the one that we have been able to depend on to come through for us in tough games. Kendal always puts 100% effort into what she does, and she does not let up until the job is done.”

Kendal’s efforts on the field have not gone unnoticed, as she earned First Team All-Conference recognition during her freshman and sophomore years. Additionally, Kendal was awarded Third Team All-State honors as a freshman and First Team All-State recognition as a sophomore. An ACL injury as a junior required surgery and sidelined Kendal, but only temporarily. She has worked hard to rehab her knee, and she is ready for her senior season on the field this spring.

Besides soccer, Kendal has been active at Sanford in the Student Activities Clubs, including acting as “Sanford Girl” at the fall pep rally and supporting the B+ organization. She played field hockey for three years and was named Third Team All-State as a junior. Kendal shares her talents and passion for the sport of soccer by volunteering outside of school to coach four to six year olds who want to learn to play the game.

Kendal’s parents John and Jennifer, who is a former member of Sanford’s alumni relations team, and brothers Jackson ’21 and Cody, will undoubtedly enjoy continuing to cheer for Kendal as she finishes her Sanford career this spring and then moves on to become a Lady Hawk at St. Joseph’s University. Everyone at Sanford is very proud of Kendal; we wish her continued success as a student-athlete.
