We are excited to offer a wide variety of classes this summer for students in grades 5-8. There is something here for everyone. From academic review and reinforcement to a passion for the arts (visual and performing) students will continue to soar while broadening their horizons.

Classes run from June through August, and range from one-week to two-week sessions. We welcome students from other schools to take any of our classes. We hope to see you this summer at Sanford!

  • The Jungle Book - Live on Stage: June 10 - 14

    Grade: Rising 1st-5th
    Instructor: Child Drama Workshop
    Time: 9 AM-3 PM
    Cost: $425

    Your child will learn about the true adventures of the jungle while befriending Baloo and dodging Shere Khans’ wrath. Come join Mowgli and his band of jungle friends in this epic adventure. Your child will love experiencing the wonders of the jungle on stage. While moving, acting, and singing, your child will have a fun romp in the jungle!

    In addition to our professional direction, trained acting teacher(s), and a souvenir program, your child will also be under the guidance of a trained choreographer and/or stage combat instructor. Campers will work together to help create the story in an ensemble format. This original play will be shared with parents and peers on the last day of camp, complete with stage make-up, costume accessories, and a souvenir program, followed by a cast party!
  • Introduction to Ukulele: June 24 - 28

    In Ms. Derrick's ukulele class, students will learn the basics of playing the Ukulele. We will learn chords, sing pop songs, create our own music, and learn how to play the Ukulele to accompany ourselves and others singing. Join Ms. Derrick for a fun week of learning the Ukulele! 
  • Math Enrichment - Pre-Algebra: June 24 - 28

    Grade: Rising 7th & 8th

    Games and daily challenges will make this program a winner for all who attend. This program will focus on the order of operations, fractions, and decimals, calculating probability and percent, and obtaining a deeper knowledge of algebraic expressions. Students will dive right into problem-solving techniques to explore all that math has to offer. Get ready to have fun while strengthening your math skills!

    *This class is intended for incoming 7th and 8th graders who are getting ready to take or who have just completed Pre-Algebra. Students enrolled in this course have NOT completed Algebra I.
  • Take A Dive: June 24 - 28

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th
    Instructor: Science Explorers
    Time: 9 AM-12 PM or 9 AM-3 PM - half-day and full-day option
    Cost: $265 for half-day and $425 for full-day option

    Dive into the world of marine biology and oceanography! In our half day camp, you’ll dissect a real shark, participate in a fisherman's challenge, examine the anatomy of a fish and learn the ancient technique of gyotaku or “fish rubbing”, learn to survive at sea with a homemade solar still, create a kelp forest and make your own submarine. 

    Families can choose to have their child leave at noon or stay for the full day camp  (3PM) and come face-to-face with some unique sea creatures! You'll complete a squid dissection, bring to life genuine Triassic Triops, conduct a whale adaptations lab, and examine many weird wonders that live under the sea!
  • Survival Skills: June 24 - 28

    Join us in this exciting camp in the beautiful Sanford Woods, where every day is an adventure! Get ready to unleash your creativity, play thrilling games, and embrace the joy of getting a little dirty. By the end of the week, you'll be equipped to conquer any challenge Mother Nature throws your way. Learn how to build shelters from natural materials or tarps and discover hidden water sources and effective water filtration techniques. Master the art of crafting tools and setting traps, ignite your fire-making skills, and become a knot-tying pro for survival situations. We will also sharpen our compass skills through exciting courses and scavenger hunts. Join us for a remarkable adventure in the great outdoors!
  • English Enrichment - Grade 8: June 24 - 28

  • Robotics with Lego: July 8 - 12

    LEGO builders, explore the LEGO SPIKE prime robotics kits as you learn how to build and code your own silly dancing robot, a working safe, charging rhine, and more! Using these kits, students will learn the fundamentals of how to design, build, and code robots. They will also apply their new knowledge of sensors, motors, and coding as they construct their own creations.

    Code Ninjas offers an enriching coding experience for kids, fostering the development of valuable coding skills through a game-based curriculum.
  • Intro to Acting: July 8 - 12

    Nervous to speak in front of a group? Want to become more comfortable presenting and performing? Well, if so, this class was designed for you! Students will gain skills in acting, improvisation, visualization, breathing, and relaxation, as well as a working vocabulary of theater terms. Additionally, students will learn valuable public speaking skills in a safe space where they are free to learn the proper way to combat nerves that may impede successful speaking in front of groups of people.
  • Math Enrichment - Algebra 1: July 8 - 12

    Grade: Rising 8th & 9th

    An individualized and supportive approach to math, whatever modality is needed to soar, Ms. Weber is able to provide!  The math enrichment course will cover a wide range of skills and will be tailored to the students who are enrolled. Students will work on their algebraic reasoning and problem-solving skills. Students will also review and strengthen previous skills, work on filling in any gaps of knowledge, and explore topics for next year’s course so that they can start with a strong foundation. Ms. Weber will be flexible with each student’s path through the course to ensure that everyone learns and grows from the material provided.

    *This course is designed for students who have COMPLETED Algebra I.
  • Code your own Cartoon: July 15 - 19

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th

    Cost: $225

    It's time to unleash your creativity and express yourself as a master storyteller. Throughout this camp you will learn how to code your own animations and imaginative stories! In this camp, Ninjas will learn how to express themselves and let their creativity shine through code as they work together to craft silly, scary, and exciting cartoons in SCRATCH - a kid-friendly, visual programming language developed by MIT. Throughout this experience, ninjas will level-up their knowledge of basic coding concepts, as well as their storytelling abilities.
  • The Magical World of Science: July 15 - 19

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th

    Get ready to make ooey gooey slime, tinker with circuits and invent something amazing, take a journey into the human body and our amazing organs, discover the science behind color and light, and explore the relationship between predator and prey, make discoveries about dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth.

    Families can choose to have their child stay until noon or engage in a full day (3 PM) of science exploration.
  • English Enrichment - Grade 5: July 15 - 19

  • Waterbotics: July 15 - 19

    Grade: Rising 6th-8th

    Water + Legos + Robotics = Waterbotics! This class is an innovative, underwater robotics class where teams of students work together to design, build, program, test, and redesign underwater robots made of LEGO and other components. Students engage in a series of design challenges or “missions” that gradually increase in complexity and ultimately lead to a fully functional underwater robot capable of maneuvering in a three-foot deep pool. This program introduces students to the concept of design and collaboration in a fun and rewarding way. 
  • Math Enrichment - Grade 6: July 15 - 19

  • English Enrichment - Grade 7: July 15 - 19

    This course is your ticket to mastering the skills that will set you up for success in seventh-grade English! Students will engage in a week of activities and assignments balanced around fifty percent reading and discussion skills and fifty percent creative and argumentative writing skills. Reading assignments will be a blend of choice read and teacher assigned short stories, articles and poems that cover a variety of genres: fiction, non-fiction, drama, and folklore.

    Students will explore what happens in these texts, how we can glean meaning from them, and their personal connections to the narratives. Our writing activities will be centered around a composition journal, where students will keep all of their major and minor writing assignments, from creative writing exercises to longer prompted responses.
  • Moviemaking and Modding in Minecraft: July 22 - 26

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th
    Instructor: Code Ninjas
    Time: 9 AM-12 PM
    Cost: $225

    Attention all Minecraft creators! Take your creative mode skills to a new level as you shift your imagination into high gear. Learn how to build epic scenes, tell stories and record videos in your own Minecraft world and learn how to make modes with custom textures, weapons, armor, enemies. In this camp, Ninjas will shift their imagination into high gear as they learn scene building, storytelling and video recording featuring their own Minecraft world. They will also jump into the basics of editing and mixing audio as they produce their final stories as short movies. Using Minecraft as a creative medium, Ninjas will have fun expressing themselves and sharing their stores with their friends. They will leave the camp with a deeper understanding of how creativity and technology can work together to create movies.
  • English Enrichment - Grade 6: July 22 - 26

    "This course will give students the opportunity to prepare some of the skills that will be vital to their success in sixth grade English!   • Adventures in Printmaking: July 29 - Aug 2

    Grade: Rising 3rd-5th

    Cost: $225

    Join Miss Liss and Mrs. Liss (you read that right, Miss Liss's mom!) for a week of creative exploration. We will be exploring printmaking to the fullest through hands-on experimentation. Students will learn the basics of printmaking and learn a variety of techniques such as Monoprinting with unconventional materials, designing a collagraph plate, and relief printing a personal logo. If you do not mind getting messy, taking yoga breaks, and experimenting with materials then this course is for you!
  • Math Enrichment - Grade 5: Aug 5 - 9

    Grade: Rising 5th

    Get ready to have fun and work on your number sense! Games and daily challenges will make this program a winner for all who attend.
