Sanford offers a variety of summer programs for students entering PreK Grade 4. It's crucial to keep young minds actively engaged in all aspects of learning, both academic and social/emotional. Our enrichment camps provide the perfect opportunity for children to practice and gain a greater confidence in academics, as well as try new things and potentially develop new passions. 

We gladly welcome students from other schools. We hope to see your child in our classrooms, enjoying our campus, and developing a love of learning this summer!

NEW THIS YEAR: SUMMER FUN DAYS - SANFORD AFTERNOON PROGRAM 12 PM - 3:15 PM

Hosted by Sanford faculty, this program is offered in conjunction with our morning classes for students in rising grades PreK-4th.

If your child enrolls in a Lower School Summer Enrichment class from 9 AM- 12 PM, they can partake in a fun-filled afternoon. This creates a full-day experience for your little one. With more than 25 Summer Enrichment Classes to choose from, we are confident that you'll find something in the morning to pair with a fun afternoon on Sanford's 100-acre, beautiful campus. *Students will need to pack lunch.

  • The Jungle Book - Live on Stage: June 10 - 14

    Grade: Grade: Rising 1st-5th
    Instructor: Child Drama Workshop
    Time: 9 AM–3 PM
    Cost: $425

    Your child will learn about the true adventures of the jungle while befriending Baloo and dodging Shere Khans’ wrath. Come join Mowgli and his band of jungle friends in this epic adventure. Your child will love experiencing the wonders of the jungle on stage. While moving, acting, and singing, your child will have a fun romp in the jungle!

    In addition to our professional direction, trained acting teacher(s), and a souvenir program, your child will also be under the guidance of a trained choreographer and/or stage combat instructor. Campers will work together to help create the story in an ensemble format.

    This original play will be shared with parents and peers on the last day of camp, complete with stage make-up, costume accessories, and a souvenir program, followed by a cast party!
  • I am Independent: June 24 - 28

    Grade: Rising PreK & K

    Responsibility leads to independence which leads to confidence! For children to become independent in common home and school tasks, they need to be given opportunities to practice. This enrichment program will expose 4 and 5-year-olds to jobs that can be done at home to build personal confidence for when they come into the classroom.

    Students will learn through stories, crafts, and various hands-on activities that will build a home and school connection. Along with activities that will build their independence physically, they will also work through social stories and group games to practice regulating specific emotions on their own. Parents and children will benefit from the independence that their child will gain from their experience during this week-long program! 
  • Cooking with Books - Session I: June 24 - 28 - CLASS FULL

    What is better than a good book? How about a good book paired with a tasty snack? Cooking with Books is a fun week-long class that will allow students to enjoy a children's book as well as learn to cook a related snack. Students will go home each day with a dish they prepared themselves. While the food is cooking, they will play games, create an art project, and put together their very own recipe book. Come join us for some fun with food!  

    *Students who took this class (session I) in the past should be aware that we will be making the same recipes.
  • Let's Go to Paris: June 24 - 28

    Grade: Rising 1st & 2nd

    In this summer class, we will embark on an exciting journey to Paris, the City of Lights! We will explore the excitement of traveling to Paris while learning about the rich culture, history, food, songs, and language. We will concentrate on learning little dialogues in French that will help us navigate our explorations. We will also do fun activities such as coloring pages and crafts, reading stories in French, and listening to French music while picnicking outside in our "French Cafe!" So, get ready for a magical journey to Paris, where every day will be a new adventure. Pack your backpack, and let's learn and explore together!
  • Take A Dive: June 24 - 28

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th
    Instructor: Science Explorers
    Time: 9 AM-12 PM or 9 AM-3 PM - half-day and full-day option
    Cost: $265 for half-day and $425 for full-day option

    Dive into the world of marine biology and oceanography! In our half day camp, you’ll dissect a real shark, participate in a fisherman's challenge, examine the anatomy of a fish and learn the ancient technique of gyotaku or “fish rubbing," learn to survive at sea with a homemade solar still, create a kelp forest and make your own submarine. 

    Families can choose to have their child leave at noon or stay for the full day camp  (3PM) and come face-to-face with some unique sea creatures! You'll complete a squid dissection, bring to life genuine Triassic Triops, conduct a whale adaptations lab, and examine many weird wonders that live under the sea!
  • Introduction to Ukulele: June 24 - 28

    Grade: Rising 3rd-5th

    In Ms. Derrick's ukulele class, students will learn the basics of playing the ukulele. We will learn chords, sing pop songs, create our own music, and learn how to play the ukulele to accompany ourselves and others singing. Join Ms. Derrick for a fun week of learning the Ukulele! 
  • Spanish Adventures - Oceans Away: July 8 - 12

    Splish-splash with us as we get ready for Spanish-fun under the waves with this year's "Oceans Away" theme! Get ready to explore pirate ships, sandy beaches and marine animal life! Experience Spanish in a whole new and magical way! Join Ms. Lia for a camp full of daily missions, crazy crafts and magical adventures! Whether your children are seeing Spanish for the first time, or they are keeping up with their language foundation, Ms. Lia is excited to keep your campers motivated, entertained, and learning from start to finish. Former campers are always welcomed!
  • Jumpstart to Kindergarten: July 8 - 19

    Come join us for a fun-filled week of exploring nature and children’s literature. We will utilize the beautiful Sanford campus to inspire our budding artists and readers! The week will include different crafts, dramatic play, writing, storytelling, and more. It is a great way to keep your child’s mind and body active and also reinforce academic skills and their love of reading.
  • Jumpstart to Third Grade: July 8 - 19

    Grade: Rising 3rd

    Jump into summer with great books, engaging math projects, and lots of ideas for creative writing! This fun-filled class will focus on reading comprehension strategies, organizing and editing stories, and complex mathematical operations such as subtraction with regrouping and the basics of multiplication.

    Brain breaks will be needed, so Miss Powderly is ready to take the students on nature walks through our beautiful sunny hills and keep everyone flexible with some outdoor yoga moves! Get ready to have a great start to third grade!
  • Robotics with Lego: July 8 - 12

    LEGO builders, come explore the LEGO SPIKE prime robotics kits as you learn how to build and code your own silly dancing robot, a working safe, charging rhine and more! Using these kits, students will learn the fundamentals of how to design, build, and code robots. They will also apply their new knowledge of sensors, motors, and coding as they construct their own creations.

    Code Ninjas offers an enriching coding experience for kids, fostering the development of valuable coding skills through a game-based curriculum.
  • School of Rock - Rookies!: July 15 - 19 - CLASS FULL

    Grade: Rising K-2nd
    Instructor: School of Rock - Hockessin
    Time: 9 AM–12 PM
    Cost: $295

    Perfect for the rockers-to-be, Rookies learn music fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Campers get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments, including guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals. The week will end with a rock show for families, of course!
  • Code your own Cartoon: July 15 - 19

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th

    It's time to unleash your creativity and express yourself as a master storyteller. Throughout this camp you will learn how to code your own animations and imaginative stories! Students will learn how to express themselves and let their creativity shine through code as they work together to craft silly, scary, and exciting cartoons in SCRATCH - a kid-friendly, visual programming language developed by MIT. Throughout this experience, students will level-up their knowledge of basic coding concepts, as well as their storytelling abilities.

  • The Magical World of Science: July 15 - 19

    Grade: Rising 2nd-5th

    Get ready to make ooey gooey slime, tinker with circuits and invent something amazing, take a journey into the human body and our amazing organs, discover the science behind color and light, and explore the relationship between predator and prey, make discoveries about dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth.

    Families can choose to have their child stay until noon or engage in a full day (3PM) of science exploration.
  • Junior Explorers: July 22 - 26 - CLASS FULL

    Grade: Rising PreK-1

    Jr. scientists will get loose in the lab exploring awesome hands-on science! They’ll investigate their way through different states of matter, create foaming, fizzing reactions, make a rainbow test tube, concoct glowing slime, mix up the best bubble solution ever, go on a fossil safari, and erupt their own volcano. 
  • Under the Sea: July 22-26

    Rising Grades: PreK and Kindergarten

    Learn about the mysteries of the sea! Do you like jellyfish? What about sharks? This week, we will learn about lots of different sea creatures, participate in guided art projects, and even create our own ocean animals! In true summer fun fashion, there will also be daily water play with kiddie pools and sprinklers!
  • Jumpstart to 1st Grade: July 22 - Aug 2

  • The Little Mermaid - The Musical: July 22 - 26

    Strike up that underwater band and let your child’s voice ring true as we get ready to “take a dive,” into the splendor of “The Little Mermaid: The Musical!” All your fan-favorite characters, from this famous Disney classic, come to life through the creative and performing power of your children! Movement and dance-based games, along with fun-filled theatre performance exercises, will give your children everything they need and more to bring about a stupendous and music-filled extravaganza! Come swim with Flounder, outsmart Ursula, save the dashing Prince this time and let your child’s creativity swim freely this summer!

  • Moviemaking and Modding in Minecraft: July 22 - 26

    Attention all Minecraft creators! Take your creative mode skills to a new level as you shift your imagination into high gear. Learn how to build epic scenes, tell stories and record videos in your own Minecraft world and learn how to make modes with custom textures, weapons, armor, enemies. In this camp, Ninjas will shift their imagination into high gear as they learn scene building, storytelling and video recording featuring their own Minecraft world.

    They will also jump into the basics of editing and mixing audio as they produce their final stories as short movies. Using Minecraft as a creative medium, Ninjas will have fun expressing themselves and sharing their stores with their friends. They will leave the camp with a deeper understanding of how creativity and technology can work together to create movies.
  • Jumpstart to PreK: July 29 - Aug 9

    Energetic, curious, creative... three words that definitely describe this age group! Our Jumpstart program is an excellent option for fostering individual creativity and academic growth. Emphasis will be placed on fine motor development (handwriting), pre-reading skills, and overall number sense. With playful hands and busy minds, we will help your child continue to build the confidence needed to grow and soar in-and-out of the classroom.  
  • Paw Patrol - On Stage!: July 29 - Aug 2

    “Paw patrol is on a roll!” Have your child journey to Adventure Bay and become one of their favorite pups from Paw Patrol: Chase, Skye, Rocky, Zuma, Marshall, Everest or even Ryder! They will experience rescuing Mayor Goodway, Captain Turbot, and more familiar characters. Watch your child take a paw step into action as they save Adventure Bay from whatever problems arise.

    Acting, singing and creative movement will combine in creating an original and improvisationally based play. Parents and friends are invited to come see our play on our last day of theatre camp, complete with costume accessories, props, make-up, and a souvenir program, followed by a cast party!

    Worried about the "Summer Slide?" Research shows that keeping up with skills over the summer will enable your child to obtain a greater sense of confidence and excitement for the upcoming second grade school year. Practice with reading and phonics skills, writing conventions, and math fact fluency will be a part of our daily routine. Students will have time to explore, create, and play both inside and outside too. Every day is a learning adventure at Sanford and we hope you can join us! 
  • Adventures in Printmaking: July 29 - Aug 2

    Grade: Rising 3rd-5th

    Join Miss Liss and Mrs. Liss (you read that right, Miss Liss's mom!) for a week of creative exploration. We will be exploring printmaking to the fullest through hands-on experimentation. Students will learn the basics of printmaking and learn a variety of techniques such as Monoprinting with unconventional materials, designing a collagraph plate, and relief printing a personal logo. If you do not mind getting messy, taking yoga breaks, and experimenting with materials then this course is for you!
  • Jumpstart to Fourth Grade: July 29 - Aug 9

    Novels, research, and fractions, oh my! When transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn it is important to solidify the skills of annotation and taking book notes to ensure understanding. Miss Powderly is excited to introduce this technique to those bridging from elementary-style books to more sophisticated chapter books. Students will also be taught writing techniques that they will implement to construct a piece they are proud to call their own! Hands-on math lessons will be taught with an emphasis on fractions, decimals, and long division. In this class, learning will come to life!
  • Where the Wild Things Are! Live and on Stage!: Aug 5 - 9

    This Caldecott Medal winner is a children’s timeless adventure brought to life on stage. Allow your child to “sail off through night and day and in and out of weeks..to where the wild things are.” Your child can become unruly and primitive beasts as they explore emotions both big and small. 

    Acting, singing and creative movement will combine in creating an original and improvisationally based play. Parents and friends are invited to come see our play on our last day of theatre camp, complete with costume accessories, props, make-up, and a souvenir program, followed by a cast party!
  • Story Art: Aug 5 - 9

    Come Join Miss Liss and Mrs. Liss (you heard that right, Miss Liss' mom) for a fun-filled week of creative exploration! This class is perfect for students that want to make new friends or connect with old ones through their love of art and stories. The Liss team will read some of our favorite children's books and create art inspired by these special stories.

    You can expect some laugher and learning moments as we read from a diverse set of authors. Students will create and explore various mediums such as collage, painting, and oil pastel amongst others. Students who take this course will get a head start on how to responsibly care for art materials and engage in creative thinking. We will make use of our beautiful campus by taking walks down by the stream, where we will practice some themed yoga. I am so excited for you to join us!
  • Cooking with Books - Session II: Aug 5 - 9

    Grade: Rising 2nd & 3rd
