Sanford Singers Help to Celebrate Children’s Hospital Expansion

On Thursday, September 18th, fourteen Sanford students lent their voices to a celebration of a very exciting moment for Delaware: the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children’s latest expansion.
The Sanford singers joined a youth choir of about 70 students in a rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World.” Sanford Music Department Chair Clint Williams served as the musical director for the event.

The performance was the centerpiece of an event that featured important speakers from around the state, including celebrity doctor Jen Arnold, of TV’s The Little Couple.

The hospital, one of the largest child health organizations in the country, will open its new wing next month. According to Jeff Santoro, the Senior Director of Partnerships and former director of musicals for Sanford Repertory Theater Company, the expansion “will provide our patients and families with single family rooms, a brand new emergency department, and operating/technical equipment that is state of the art. The bottom line: we will better serve those seeking comfort, knowledge, and care. … We have never conducted such a large and aggressive expansion like the one currently in progress and we think it’s an important part of Delaware’s history.”

The students participating are as follows:

Breanna Mendell
Ivy Wang
Shelby Ward
Fiona Jicha
Jordan McMillan
Olivia Zhang
Claire Jester
Philip Donahue
Emma Ziesing
Kate Holden
Asia DeShields
Greg Fleming
Ryan Washington
Leah Somerville
Maddie Cooper
Rachel Rice

More information about the expansion, including a video tour, can be found at the Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children’s website.
