Collin Campbell Named to USA Select Men’s Lacrosse Roster

Sanford Senior Collin Campbell loves lacrosse and made the Under Armour All-American Lacrosse 2022 Boys Watchlist. He was also chosen for the USA Select Men's U18 Team, as one of just 22 players from 11 states, who are competing internationally in mid-October against teams from Ontario and the Iroquois Nation during the Brogden Cup. This event runs in conjunction with U.S. men’s and women’s national teams’ Fall Classic, where Campbell will be introduced to their high-level national training program.
Last spring Campbell was selected as an All-American. USA Lacrosse chooses the best U.S. players who have superior skills, game sense and knowledge, and embody excellent sportsmanship. “Making the All American as a junior last spring  was a big deal,” explains his father, Patrick Campbell. And his athletic honors have grown exponentially since high school.

“Collin plays attack for us at Sanford. He led the state last year in goals and total points (goals and assists),” says Sanford Boys’ Lacrosse Head Coach Tim Lucky. “He has a unique style of play in that he has very high skills in box lacrosse that he uses in the outdoor game. His ability to get inside and underneath his defenders makes him almost impossible to defend.”

In Coach Lucky’s words, “Collin Campbell is the player he is today because of Collin Campbell. No one works harder or puts in more time training than Collin. The Sanford lacrosse program is fortunate to have him. He has been one of the key players that has contributed to our team’s success. He brings a workout intensity to our team that is infectious. He makes everyone around him better because of his high-level intensity, motivation and “refuse to lose” attitude. It should be another exciting season.”

Thanks to his talent and hard work, Collin committed last year to Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia for fall of 2022 and will play NCAA Division I men's lacrosse.

His father remembers when Collin arrived at Sanford, “He was a small 5’8” freshman, and he scored a bunch of goals for Sanford. In 2018, he also played with Team 91 Maryland at the elite level—but he was never the starter. He was always the underrated player, and it’s driven him to work hard, to improve on his own time. He plays lacrosse all year long: competing in summer club lacrosse, working on skill development and weight training in the fall, box lacrosse in the winter, and back outside in the spring.”

In the fall of 2019, as a sophomore, Collin went to the 2019 Nike Boys NXT Philadelphia Showcase, for college recruiting, and he not only played his best games but also was named MVP of the entire showcase for the ‘21s and ‘22s. “That’s what put him on the radar.”

In his junior year, he moved up from receiving the 2021 1st Team All-Conference Award to
2021 Delaware 1st All-State Team Award to 2021 Delaware All-American Award and finally the 2021 UA All American Baltimore Highlights Team—the definite highlight of his year.

A resident of Rising Sun, Maryland, he first learned to scoop and throw the ball at age 4 in the Cecil County Lacrosse Parks & Recreation children’s soft sticks program. By age 7, he was competing.

“At the recreational level, he began in Cecil County with Coach Tim Lucky and has played with him ever since,” says Patrick Campbell. “In 5th grade, he competed with Coach Lucky in the FCA Delmarva Chapter. He’s loved lacrosse ever since.”

Campbell enrolled at Sanford in 9th grade primarily because of Coach Lucky. Continuing to play for Team 91 Maryland, an elite, nationally-ranked Maryland lacrosse program Coached by Lacrosse Hall of Famer Mark Millon. In 2018, his team won the NLF national championship for the 2022 graduating class.

“Sanford School has helped Collin grow academically—the small classes make a real difference,” says his father. “He loves his teammates and has lots of friends at Sanford. And he puts his team first.”
