Sanford School warmly welcomes parent involvement in the life of our school. That is part of what makes us a community. There is always a way to get involved, no matter how much time you have. One great way to serve is through our parent-led Home and School Association (H&S).
The Home and School Association, Sanford School’s parent organization, includes as members all parents of enrolled students and encourages all parents to become active in the organization.
Building and nurturing the parent community
The Home and School Association supports Sanford School by strengthening parent-to-parent relationships and parent-to-school relationships through a variety of efforts and events. In all things, Home and School Association aims to
Communicate with parents and involve them in the life of the school
Provide educational and social events for parents
Assist in raising funds for the school through special events.
All parents, faculty, and staff are invited and encouraged to attend Home and School Association meetings, held multiple times during the school year. They are an interesting way to meet people and learn more about the school.
Meetings include:
Updates from the Head of School
Announcements of campus events
An educational topic of mutual interest.
Sanford’s Home and School Association is also a member of the Parent Awareness Committee, organized among the four local, independent schools. Schools take turns hosting annual speakers on timely topics related to child development.
The Home and School Association recruits parent representatives from each grade to communicate with parents regarding activities at the school, help coordinate community-building activities, and support the social activities. They serve as a resource for parents, a mentor for new parents, and an advocate for the school.
Volunteers regularly support teachers and staff and help with schoolwide events, classroom activities, and divisional undertakings (e.g., Lower School GrandSpecial Day; Prom).
The benefits of volunteering are many, for our parents, our students, our faculty and staff, and our school. Volunteering:
Provides an opportunity for parents to become more knowledgeable about the school
Supports the faculty and staff
Develops relationships with other parents within and across all three divisions
Strengthens the school community
Want to get involved? There are positions that require a variety of skills and time commitments, providing all parents the reward of giving back to the school. Please email Megan Rushmore at rushmorem@sanfordschool.org for additional information.
Sanford holds several events annually to raise funds for the school. Volunteers who assist with these events take on numerous roles, including planning, promotion, reaching out to local businesses for support, administration, and decorating. All parents are encouraged to attend these fun and festive events, the proceeds of which benefit the school as a whole.
