A New Chapter for the Lower School

A strong elementary education lays the foundation for a student’s future by nurturing curiosity, building critical thinking skills, and fostering a lifelong love of learning. At Sanford School, joyful learning unfolds each day in classrooms designed to support the growth of the whole child.

As part of the $10.75 million Exceptionally Sanford Campaign, a $3.825 million investment in the Lower School will enhance classrooms and learning spaces that support students’ daily experiences. The project includes updates to existing classrooms and the addition of a new two-story wing at the northwest end of the Albright Building. These improvements will provide essential space to support recent enrollment growth while preserving our intentionally small class size of 16 students per homeroom.
We broke ground in June 2026, but we still need significant support to complete this project.

With your help, we can create inspiring classrooms and learning spaces that will enrich the daily lives of our youngest learners and the faculty who guide them. Purchase a brick or plaque to leave your mark on the new Lower School wing, or contact Jody Cross in our Development Team to learn about other ways to give.

Like other campus projects, improvements to the Lower School are designed to achieve maximum functionality and aesthetic appeal through responsible investment. At a total cost of $3.825 million, this renovation and expansion project will allow us to:
  • Build five new classrooms, including two early education classrooms with attached bathrooms
  • Construct a new Nurses’ Suite serving students from preschool through grade 12, featuring an exam room, quiet rest area, and waiting room
  • Renovate existing classrooms to create more space for students and expand learning opportunities, including:
  • A digital learning lab
  • Dedicated areas for academic support and enrichment
  • Renovate the lower school playground
