One of the best private schools in Delaware, Sanford School is a co-educational, college preparatory day school for grades preschool–12. Nestled on a striking, college-like campus in Hockessin, Delaware, Sanford & Ellen Sawin founded Sanford School in 1930 as an innovative school where No Talent Lies Latent. A rigorous, engaging, college-preparatory curriculum awaits students at Sanford School.  To round out students’ preparation for the world beyond, Sanford students receive:
  • 100% college placement
  • 2 college counselors (available in the College Counseling Center)
  • Preschool–6:  physical education classes 3-5 times per week 
  • 7–12:  competitive interscholastic team sports
  • 40% of Sanford students receive need-based financial aid. 
  • Merit-based scholarships are available for students entering Kindergarten, Middle School, and Grade 9.
  • Available before and after school, during school holidays and breaks, on snow days, and in the weeks prior to and following summer camp.
  • All students may participate in a wide selection of after-school enrichment programs tailored to their interests.

  • Morning drop-off begins at 7:00 AM
  • Preschool–Grade 4:  7:55 AM–2:55 PM
  • Grades 5 & 6:  7:55 AM–3:15 PM
  • Grades 7 & 8:  7:55 AM–3:30 PM
  • Grades 9–12:  7:55 AM–3:00 PM, sports practice runs from 3:30 - 5:30 PM
  • Extended Day programs for Preschool–Grade 8 runs through 6:00 PM
Summer Programs
Our campus plays host to a variety of day camp, athletic and educational offerings for all ages during the summer months.

  • Sanford provides morning bus transportation for students living in Middletown and Southern Newark, DE.  
  • Kennett Consolidated, Avon Grove, and Unionville/Chadds Ford School Districts provide bus transportation for residents living in their districts.
  • Beginning in the fall of 2019, Sanford will provide transportation for students in North Wilmington.

Home & School Association
A parent-run, volunteer organization that helps promote a close relationship between Sanford and its parents, Home & School sponsors fund-raising, educational, and social events for our community. Home & School also conducts general membership meetings five times a year.
