Sadie Jordan ’27 Selected for Prestigious U.S. Senate Page Program

Sanford School junior Sadie Jordan ’27 has been selected to participate in the highly competitive U.S. Senate Page Program this semester, an honor that will take her to the heart of American democracy in Washington, D.C.
The Senate Page Program offers a select group of high school juniors the opportunity to live and work on Capitol Hill while attending classes at the U.S. Senate Page School. For Sadie, this represents the perfect intersection of her two greatest passions, journalism and political science.

“I’ve always been interested in how government actually works, and this seems like an incredible chance to see it up close. The idea of living in Washington, D.C., and working on Capitol Hill sounds so exciting… I’m really excited to meet other juniors from around the country that share similar interests as I do. It’ll be cool to hear different perspectives from people who come from completely different places and backgrounds.”

“My main goal is to really understand what goes on behind the scenes in government—the stuff you don’t see on the news or read about online,” she explains. “I want to see how the things we study in government class actually play out in real life—like watching debates happen live or seeing how bills actually become laws.”

Sadie hopes to sharpen her communication by observing how professionals handle complex issues and collaborate across differences. “I want to improve my communication skills by watching how professionals discuss complicated issues and work together even when they disagree,” she says. She also hopes the semester will clarify her college focus in political science and journalism.

She credits Sanford with encouraging community engagement and collaboration. “Sanford has taught me the importance of being involved in my community and thinking about how I can contribute to something bigger than myself,” she reflects. Working with classmates from different backgrounds, she adds, has prepared her to collaborate with “all kinds of people” and given her the confidence to take on new challenges.

Beyond the immediate learning opportunities, Sadie looks forward to building a network in Washington. “On a personal level, I really want to make lasting friendships with the other pages and build relationships with mentors who can give me advice as I figure out my future... Overall, I want this semester to help me understand how I might be able to make a difference in government or public service someday.”

The Sanford community wishes Sadie the best as she embarks on this journey in our nation’s capital!

Special thanks to Nia Naylor ’20, who works for U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester and brought this opportunity to our attention.
