Sanford's middle and upper school literary magazines have received honors from the foremost professional organization for English teachers.
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) has rated Meta4, the middle school's student literary magazine, Excellent in just the magazine's third year of publication. This is the first year that Meta4 was submitted for judging. The student editors for Meta4 were: Peter Sabini, Alexandra Somerville, Madison Stevens, and Jessica Zbranak. Christine Yasik was the faculty advisor.
Inscape, our upper school student literary magazine, also received a rating of Excellent. The student editors were Phoebe Hering and Elizabeth Brown. For more than a decade, Inscape has received top-level honors from NCTE.
NCTE’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines honors students, teachers, and schools for producing excellent literary magazines. The program’s mission is to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines and seek excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production. Participation in the program serves as an inducement for improving the quality of school literary magazines.
The student literary magazine program is open to all senior high, junior high, and middle schools throughout the United States, Canada, Virgin Islands, and to American schools abroad.
