Lily Allingham Will Compete in National Spelling Bee

Seventh grader Lily Allingham is the winner of the Delaware Spelling Bee and will represent the First State in the national competition.
The Scripps-sponsored annual event took place yesterday at St. Mark's High School. More than 60 Delaware schools sent representatives, from grades four through eight. As the winner, Lily receives a free trip to Washington, D.C. to compete at the national level, a $100 savings bond, and an 11-pound Webster’s Third New International Dictionary.

Lily attributes much of her success in word mastery to her father, Tom Allingham, who encouraged her to expand her vocabulary.

An aspiring children's book author, Lily's interests include musical theater. She recently performed in Sanford's production of The Sound of Music.
