Williams Serenades Wilmington with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra

On Friday, April 25th, Sanford’s own Clint Williams joined the Delaware Symphony Orchestra for a sold-out, one-night-only concert at The Grand Opera House in downtown Wilmington.
The evening, billed as “Classic Characters” was the final installment in this season’s “Classics” series. It featured two pieces: Paul Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber” and Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana.”

Mr. Williams, the Director of Performing Arts at Sanford, performed as the countertenor soloist for “Carmina Burana,” a cantata composed in 1935-36 by German composer Orff. He was joined by mezzo-soprano Mary Wilson and baritone Jonathan Beyer, as well as the University of Delaware Symphonic Chorale and the Wilmington Children’s Chorus.

David Amado, of the DSO, directed the performance, which marks only the second time this season that the orchestra has played at The Grand. Because the performance was one-night-only, the house was packed. The show earned a glowing review from the News Journal, which lauded “capable” soloists who were “pushed to their limits, but never beyond them” by the difficult score.

Congratulations to Mr. Williams on a spectacular performance!
