Samantha Stevenson and MOE Robotics Club Present the “EliMOEnator”

The MOE Robotics Club, led by new Student President Samantha Stevenson, recently presented their new robot, the “EliMOEnator,” to a curious audience in the Sports Center.
MOE, which stands for “Miracle of Engineering,” is a team of students, teachers, parents, and sponsors who collaborate to build a robot that will compete in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition. The team, whose members call themselves the “Miracle Workerz,” unites 44 students from 14 different schools in the Delaware region. Since 2000, MOE has designed 15 robots, which perform such tasks picking up and launching small disks, kicking soccer balls, and collecting “moon rocks.”

Samantha Stevenson, a Sanford junior, was recently elected Student President for 2014–2015. Fellow students David Kwart and Rebecca Goodier are also “Miracle Workerz.” The three Warriors work alongside students from Tatnall, A.I. Dupont, and Cab Calloway, among several others.

The “EliMOEnator,” this year’s robot, is designed to pick balls up off the floor and catapult them into the air. The robot “has a 6-CIM, 8-wheel drive for speed and power, a catapult shooter, and many sensors for game-playing efficiency,” according to the team’s website.

FIRST, an acronym for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,” sponsors robotics competitions, enabling students from around the country to work on their projects alongside professionals and to hone engineering, leadership, and teamwork skills.

MOE and other Delaware robotics teams are sponsored by the DuPont Company and managed by the nonprofit First State Robotics. More information about this exciting STEM project is available here.

Congratulations to Samantha, David, Rebecca, and the entire MOE team on their brilliant work! We look forward to following MOE’s progress into the future.
