Campus Celebrates du Pont Library, Pirnie STEM Lab Renovations with Ribbon Cuttings

On September 13th, the Sanford community gathered on campus for ribbon cutting ceremonies for the newly renovated facilities in Irene S. du Pont Library and Pirnie Hall.
The openings are important steps in Sanford’s Front & Center Campaign, which aims to revitalize historic campus buildings to enhance students’ experience at Sanford for years to come.

First, Head of School Mark Anderson introduced the new information center and Extended Day spaces in the du Pont Library, which will give the library an even more central place in campus life. He thanked Facilities Head Kevin Needham and Director of Extended Day Ann Davis for their invaluable contributions. After comments from trustee and former faculty member Peter Flint, Mark cut the ribbon along with other important contributors to the project: Front & Center Campaign Co-Chair Tom Allingham; Campaign Committee member Sharon Struthers and her husband Ric; dedicated volunteers Gina and Stan Sykora; and Braden and Rowan Avatera, who represented all Sanford’s Extended Day participants.

This ceremony was followed by a second ribbon-cutting at Pirnie Hall’s new STEM Lab, featuring a 3D printing demonstration. Mark Anderson thanked Science Department Chair Jim Barnaby and all the Technology Staff for their hard work on the project. He was joined in the ribbon cutting by Tom Allingham, Ken Moses of contracting firm GB At Your Service, and outstanding Science and Math students Aaron and Jacob Lafferty and Sarah Filak.

After the ribbon cuttings, guests joined Mark for a hard hat tour of the new Geipel facility, the centerpiece of the capital campaign, which is currently under construction.

We encourage all Sanford community members to stop by the fabulous new facilities!
