Jenna Warren Qualifies for National Geographic State Bee

Eighth grader Jenna Warren has been selected to advance to the Delaware National Geographic State Bee.
After becoming Sanford’s champion on January 11, Jenna took an online qualifying test. She will compete against up to 100 of the other top-scoring students in Delaware on April 1 for a chance to travel to the National Geographic Bee Championship in Washington, D.C.

Competitors in school Bees had to answer questions like: “To fish in Lake Winnipesaukee [wi-neh-peh-SAW-kee] and ski near Franconia Notch, you would travel to which state—New Hampshire or South Dakota?” (New Hampshire.) “Sea kayakers can explore hundreds of islands off the Dalmatian coast of which European country south of Slovenia?” (Croatia.)

The National Geographic Bee (formerly Geography Bee) is an educational program of the National Geographic Society. Statewide winners will travel to Washington, D.C. in late May to compete for a top prize of a $50,000 college scholarship.

Congratulations to Jenna, and good luck at the State Bee!
