Sanford Students Recognized for Excellence in National Spanish Exams

Congratulations to several Spanish students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2015 National Spanish Examinations.
Sanford students earned a total of 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Silver medal recipients were: Leah Somerville, Paige Amendum, Kendya
Kennedy, and Fiona Jicha.

Megan Snyder, Haris Nashed, and Meriwether Seder-Burnaford received bronze medals.

The following 20 students earned honorable mention reognition: Ananya Singh, Abigail Wahl, Sarah Filak, Elizabeth VanderLaan, Madeline Cooper, Lilia Wiesnegger, Joh Wagner, Jacalyn Rosa, Shelby Ward, Brendan Lamey, Amy Modi, Nisha Yeleswaram, Samantha Weinstein, Taylor Samuels, Martin Hunt, Adrian Jenkins, Hannah Duffy, Bria Manlove, Matthew Rosenthal, and Miranda Partie.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2015.”

Students from Sanford School have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers Silvana Pineda and Elizabeth Capone.
  
Sanford gives special recognition this year to students Fiona Jicha (Level 4) and Miranda Partie (Level 5), who both earned 10th place at their level in the state of Delaware. They have each received monetary prizes for their outstanding performance.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and aresponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
