Middle School Musicians Make School History

On Friday, May 11th, Middle School students in the fifth through eighth-grade band and chorus programs participated in the annual Music in the Parks competition at Six Flags Great Adventure and Safari Amusement Park in Jackson, NJ.
Sanford history was made when, for the first time ever, the students earned a trophy for something that had nothing to do with their musical talents—the coveted “Esprit de Corps” trophy.

Performing Arts Department Chair Clint Williams explained: “While I am always pleased and excited when our young musicians excel and earn recognition for their talents, this year’s competition was extra special. The prestigious “Esprit de Corps” trophy honor is awarded to only one school whose students are deemed to have been the most courteous, kind, and well-behaved throughout the day’s activities. I am very proud of them for being good people as well as good musicians. This honor is very special, and I am thrilled that our students were selected to receive this year’s award.”

As they have in the past, Sanford musicians ranked very high, with the following awards being presented:
5/6 Band: 1st Place with an Excellent rating
5/6 Chorus: 1st Place with an Excellent rating
7/8 Band: 2nd Place with an Excellent rating
7/8 Chorus: 1st Place with an Excellent rating

Performing Arts faculty members Jenn Kelman, Jenna Knaster, and Jeff Molush were also at the competition and join Williams in being very proud of their students. Congratulations to all the students and faculty for representing Sanford so well at this year’s Music in the Park competition.
