A Grateful Heart

I write at the conclusion of Sanford’s 2017–18 school year with a grateful heart. It was a wonderful year for our school community—one filled with hard work, tremendous growth, exciting beginnings, and fond farewells.
A few highlights of the year at Sanford:
  • We opened the school year with newly remodeled facilities. Quigley Hall became the home of our beautiful new College Counseling Center, and a renovated weight room and mezzanine in the Sports Center gave Warrior athletes a greatly improved space to train.
  • Our PreK–12 enrollment stayed steady and strong at 580 students. Sanford parents continue to be our best ambassadors, often encouraging coworkers, neighbors, and family members to come see what makes our school so special.
  • Financial support for Sanford continues to be strong. We are $1,500 away from the $25,000 Annual Fund match announced on June 4th. We have received $23,500 and 100 gifts. We need everyone's help to reach our goal and to increase participation. If you would like to support this effort, please make a gift on our secure online giving page.
  • Sanford received $125,000 from this year's Home & School Auction. These funds will be used for campus improvement and to support faculty summer study grants.
  • There have been countless Sanford stories highlighting our students’ efforts in academics, arts, athletics, and service. It is with great pride that I share our 2018 college matriculation list. As is the case every year, Sanford students will go off to study at wonderful places—they are as varied and unique as the members of the Class of 2018. I am certain that their Sanford preparation will serve them exceptionally well in the coming years.
Yes, we are tremendously proud of the year we just completed. However, the old teacher in me is just as excited for what we have in store for 2018–19.
  • The much anticipated woodshop in Stewart Cottage will open this fall for classes and clubs. Generous support from the Wahl, Jefferson, and Dougherty families allowed Sanford to transform a building that had seen a better day into a gleaming star of possibility. I can’t wait to see what our teachers and students create in Stewart Cottage.
  • An anonymous donor stepped forward to fund a Bermuda grass field to be installed on our field hockey and lacrosse field, adjacent to Geipel.
  • New Upper School Head Abbi Smith will officially join us on July 1st. We are also adding a few new hires to our Sanford faculty in 2018. We will send an update later this summer with our personnel news.
New faces, spaces, programs. I am certain that 2018–19 will be exciting and successful at Sanford. Please know how seriously our faculty, staff, and leadership team take the responsibility of providing all of our students an exceptional experience. While we are all tremendously proud of our Sanford, there is no resting on laurels here. NONE. Sanford is a great school today. We will be even better moving forward.

Thank you for your support of our school. Sanford is able to grow, as our new Strategic Direction says, Bolder, Brighter, Stronger, because our parents, alumni, and alumni parents continue to play a part in Sanford’s success.

Have a great summer!
