The 2020–2021 School Year is Off to a Great Start

Thank you for your contribution to the successful opening of our 2020–21 school year. Our students—both here on campus and learning remotely—have jumped right into the new year. Although new protocols and procedures have altered some aspects of our program, the soul of Sanford has not changed. Seeing your children, in person and virtually, warms the hearts of our faculty and brings joy to our community.
Here are a few updates and suggestions designed to help enhance your family’s Sanford experience.
  • Back-to-School Nights will be virtual this year. Your children’s teachers will be creating and sharing videos to introduce themselves, describe their courses, and share goals and expectations. The videos will be available for viewing on Thursday, September 24th. If, after viewing the videos, you would like to speak with your children’s teachers or advisor, please contact them directly via email to arrange a call.
  • Our technology upgrades are coming! Sanford’s Swivls, which will allow teachers to better connect classroom activities to our remote learners, have been delayed in transit. We expect to receive the devices in the coming weeks. Work is underway for our second major tech improvement—the installation of outdoor WiFi capabilities. Both enhancements will be valuable additions for all Sanford students.
  • We’re working on strategies to make carlines more efficient. With school opening at 7:30 AM and all three divisions dismissing in the afternoon at similar times, the roadways are busy, and bottlenecks develop. We understand that congestion can be frustrating. We are exploring options, working with the Department of Transportation to improve the situation, and planning to share an updated carline plan with you next week. We are grateful for your patience as we work to create the safest possible environment for our community. You can support the effort by:
    • Keeping intersections clear
    • Driving slowly on campus
    • Arriving after the rush; for example, seventh/eighth-grade carline begins at 3:30 PM, so if you’re picking up a seventh or eighth grader, arrive on campus no earlier than 3:25 PM.
  • COVID testing for faculty and staff will continue throughout the school year. Through a state of Delaware program, our employees will be tested monthly. To help maintain our community’s safety, we strongly encourage all families to have their students tested once a month. To find a location that’s convenient for your family, download New Castle County COVID-19 Testing Sites.
  • All of us can help our community stay healthy. Please continue to do your part to fight COVID-19 by following these CDC guidelines:
    • Wear your mask, covering your nose and mouth, when inside.
    • Physically distance from anyone not in your immediate family.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and/or use hand sanitizer.
    • Clean frequently touched surfaces often.
    • Avoid large group gatherings and traveling whenever possible.
Sanford students and faculty are rising to the challenges that fall 2020 has presented. We have been especially pleased to see students in all three divisions following our safety protocols and adjusting to campus and program changes. Please share kudos and my gratitude with your children. Working together, I am certain we will make the 2020–21 school year at Sanford a huge success.

As always, I appreciate your support.
