Upper School Students Travel to Europe

On June 16th, a group of Sanford’s high school students took time out of their summers to explore the wonders of Europe with their fellow classmates and four faculty chaperones.
On their expedition which took them through Greece, Italy, and France, the upper school crew was led by teachers Stacy Krape, Brianna Smale, Eric Peoples, and Suzanne Meyer. Their journey began in Greece where they stayed in the small town of Varkiza on the Aegean Sea. They visited Athens where they climbed Acropolis Hill and toured the Parthenon. Next, they travelled to Corinth to tour the ancient city and visit the Corinth Canal.

The group then took a ferry over to Italy. There, they took a special interest in the history of the Renaissance spending two days in Florence touring various museums including the Duomo and Ponte Vecchi and visit a leather-making shop.

Their trip next took them on a ship to Barcelona, Spain. The group saw Los Ramblos, the beach, the Sagrada Familia, and the FC Barcelona Soccer Stadium. They even learned how to use the city’s public transit system. Next the Sanford group boarded a train to Madrid. They took half a day to tour Toledo, a small religious town known for its sword making, where they visited a sword-making factory. Whirlwind trip ended with a tour of Madrid and the Royal Palace.

Welcome back to the lucky students and faculty who experienced this memorable trip!
