Head of School Mark Anderson Serves as Panelist at Millennial Summit

On Tuesday, August 1, Sanford Head of School Mark Anderson served as a panelist at Delaware’s first Millennial Summit.
The event took place at the Chase Center in Wilmington and was led by Ambassador to the United States Vlora Çitaku who represents the Republic of Kosovo. The goal of the summit was to encourage and inspire the more than 300 young professionals (millennials) who attended to make a change, spread some good, and be successful at whatever they do. The Summit included presentations and panel discussions which were led by a total of 70 participants, with Mark Anderson included. On his panel, Anderson shared his thoughts on the importance of strong schools in a growing city. He said, “As millennials start families, they will want great choices for schools—places like Sanford. Delaware has a rich history of supporting many private, public, and charter schools; this should be fertile ground for the community that wants to be a great place for young families to move and stay.”

The Summit participants and Çitaku broadcasted a message lauding hard work, social responsibility, community outreach, and teamwork in this rising generation. In addition to this, Çitaku shared the inspiring story of her rise from a humble refugee to the youngest ambassador in the world. Anderson commented, “Our panel had a great turnout - and I was excited to share how impressed I am with the millennial generation, in general. I believe our young people are often painted unfairly in the media as entitled and whiny. I spoke to our audience about how encouraged I am to see the millennials I know personally—our younger teachers, Sanford alumni, and oldest students—who work very hard, have great ambition, and want to make our world a better place.”

Anderson shared some final advice for ambitious millennials: “Think old school. How would your grandparents find success? Work hard, show thoughtful manners, write personal, handwritten thank you notes, and get off your phones from time to time—these little things will make a person stand out in our hyper-connected age.”

Thank you Mark Anderson for representing Sanford at this important Summit and for encouraging the future generation to make their mark on the world!
