As part of an art class project, Lower School Visual Arts instructor Nicki Liss asked students to design a robot that could make the world more peaceful. Kenton's artwork was selected as one of 31 pieces featured in this special juried exhibition, which celebrates young artists' visions of a more peaceful world.
"When thinking about a peaceful world, I thought about designing a robot that plays music for people to help them feel joyful and have fun together," Kenton explained.
Liss praised the creativity and dedication Kenton brought to this prompt. "He worked hard to bring his vision to life, even meeting with me outside of class time to further develop his ideas," she shared.
Liss also reflected on the significance of Kenton's recognition. "Having his work selected for the Pacem in Terris Youth Art Exhibition is a wonderful honor and a meaningful example of Sanford's motto, 'No Talent Lies Latent,'" she said. "It reflects the many ways we encourage students to explore their passions, develop their ideas, and share their unique talents with the world."
The exhibition opens on Sunday, January 24, from 1-2 PM at Baggage Claim A in Philadelphia International Airport, with U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester serving as Honorary Chair.
For Kenton, the opportunity to share his creation with a wider audience is especially exciting. "I am very happy that my artwork will be displayed in the Philadelphia airport," he shared. "I am devoted to my art."
We are proud of your commitment to your art, Kenton, and we can't wait to see what you'll create next!
