Food for Thought: School Meals that Taste Great!

CulinArt, Inc. has been providing our students and staff with delicious, nutritious meals since 2010—the result of a student initiative to have higher quality, healthier, sustainably produced lunch options in Sanford’s dining hall and Warrior Café, located in Quigley Hall.

Chef Mike Galvin plans original menus that feature local, sustainable ingredients. The dining staff makes many items from scratch so that menu choices are healthier, fresher, better-tasting, and may accommodate students with food allergies and sensitivities. The dining hall offers gluten-free options and a nut-free table.

As Chef Mike plans meals, works with classes that visit the dining hall, and visits the local farms that source our produce, he seeks to educate students about nutrition, ensure sustainability and fair labor practices, and reduce waste. Students enjoy comingled recycling and compostable containers and paper products, and Friendship House homeless shelter welcomes our leftovers each Friday.

Menus

Chef Mike knows that food has to be appealing! Daily lunch options always include a homemade soup of the day, fresh salad bar, chef’s specials and accompaniments, grill and deli choices, and original twists on pizza and pasta. A vegetarian offering is always available, and whole grain flour enhances the taste and texture of the dining hall’s popular muffins, scones, and other baked goods. Students arriving on campus early can even stop by for breakfast!

Dining Options

All Sanford students may bring their lunches from home or enjoy CulinArt’s freshly prepared meals. (Reminder: Lower School is peanut- and tree nut-free.) Students in Preschool–2nd grade eat in their classrooms. Students in grades 3–12 go to the dining hall for lunch at staggered times, where they can purchase meals with cash or via a monitorable, cashless dining account. Water is always available to drink.
